Questions About Web Designers????? Website Building?

1. Roughly how much do they cost?
2. Do they teach you how to update it?
3. Roughly how long does it take to build a like 30 page website?
4. (besides taking classes) Is there someone that can teach you how to use a program to make a website???
5. Is joomla a good program to use because its really complicated to me.
6. Is there any good web design template that is easy to update, easy to use, works with godaddy, and easy to upload???
PS: you don’t have to answer all of these.
Thanks!

If you get 6, the rest are pretty much moot. And 6 depends on what you want – “a 30 page website” doesn’t tell us much. If it’s a commercial site, don’t even dream of doing it yourself, with your experience level – or hiring someone who isn’t experienced at building commercial sites – there are legal ramifications.
If you need something that can be done by one of these (I have no idea what you want – a blog, a forum, a social networking site), look around and play with the demos. You probably don’t want something like Drupal or Joomla, but some of these sites just have to be customized – and there are panels to do that – your site name, your email, the color scheme you want, etc. No code, no HTML – it’s all done for you. Take a look -> http://www.opensourcecms.com/
Oh – they’re all free, they can all be uploaded to GoDaddy (I’ve had an account with them for years, so I know what you get – even with the $4/month account – all you need for these is PHP and MySQL – you’ll have to create a database on MySQL, but tech support will talk you through it if you can’t figure it out), and they all have forums where you can get help from people who use the site and who wrote it. I have one of them running on a computer at home and, if I ever get a few days to make sure it’s the way I like it, it gets uploaded to my GoDaddy account.

Why not learn to do web design? You can become a web master and build your own site and sites for others.
Site design is a growing field and the economy isn’t effecting it.
Learn the process from a university taught program, and graduate with your own successful website. You can’t beat the deal for $299.00.
The Universities that this coarse is taught at charge a lot more for the same coarse.
Come view the TV show to learn all about it.

DIY or by a webdesigner ?
build from scratch or with a pagecreator ?

    1. Service industry, Price varies. As a consumer/client study the firm you choose wisely.
    2. Usually, a programmer will make a template in side server code and creates data in the database (recordsets) which when you need a new page or changes to a page will be update.
    3. How long depends on the media, content, and/or ecommerce. Each vary its quicker for one to create your site from a template but won’t be to your liking custom costs more and takes longer. Like if you want flash, movies, music, etc.
    4. As for me I self taught in web design and web programming I studied with a dummy book 7 years ago when I was like 12 and couldn’t understand it came back to it 10 years later and am a pro at it as well as graphic design. Patience is key and to be a great critical thinker is the best because its an art and bugs occur technology will never be 100% fool proof as are ourselves.
    5. joomla is content management, meaning once you create your site you can use it to create new pages as instructed and update old ones.
    6. web design templates are only as updatable as you set it up to be. If you are just designing you need a web program to update it and is static. Templates in a database can be updated dynamically with sideserver code.

    1. 100% depends. EVERY one is different. If you go with a big company they will charge more. If you go with a freelancer they can probably be negotiated to a cheaper rate. Or if you go with a student (fresh out of a design school) you could get a really good rate.
    2. You have to pay for this. Some can design systems that make it easy for you to do some minor updates (of some text and stuff). But they would likely leave it so you have to re-hire them to do any major coding changes.
    3. 30 page web site? Wow, depends how unique you want each page. If you’re cool with them all looking the same (formatting wise) then it could be done fairly quick. Once you sign off on the design of the main page they can use that as a template and just quickly enter in the “filler” for all the other pages. But if other pages are really unique and require different designs then it takes longer. Purely depends how many unique pages you need.
    4. You could ask around your local craigslist if a freelancer will do in house teaching for you. I’d grab a book first and see how far that takes you, then hit up a freelancer to help you get over bumps.
    5. Depends what you’re doing. I wouldn’t think it bad, but I don’t know about necessary.
    6. There are loads of templates out there. Just google around. Another way to get some good ones is to hit up a really robust magazine store for Web Design magazines. Then scour for one that has a CD with it. Most of those come with templates. They might not be amazing, but who knows, they might have a decent one for you. And they’ll likely also advertise the company that did them, so you can check the company to see if there are any worth buying.
Hit up Amazon and look for a good HTML and CSS book. Take the time to read through reviews and look for one where it seems like it will be an easy and effective read. Or pick a software tool for making web sites, like Dreamweaver, and then just look for a book that has strong ratings for that software.
