So I know PHP is important, what else?

I’m looking for something free that can list jobs that i post and other people who post also… something like www.monster.com or hotjobs yahoo but i know i can’t get that for free so i need some php program or something that i can intergret with joomla or some other cms .. please post something

I purchased a service which provides a Dell ESP 440 with CentOS 4.x. I connected via SSH and when I type ‘LS’ all I see is a file called ‘anaconda-ks.cfg’. It appears like the server is empty. I’ve done a lot of freelance PHP programming and some ‘light’ server functions; I’ve setup a few IIS servers but nothing of this scope. Basically I am developing a large-scale website, Joomla-based, with server-side video transcoding (using FFMPEG). Any good online tutorials on setting this type of server up?

I am trying to make a website for my wedding invitation business. I have discovered joomla and am trying to find a shopping cart solution that is free that provides the ability to add the invitations to the cart the go through the process of customizing them for the individual.
Is there a program available to do this? It doesnt even have to be compatable with joomla though it would be nice.

anyone an expert or has had experience on web design and know about developing a web site from scratch. I’m kinda trying to learn how to build a website but also want to help my friend make one since i do have more expierence in computers. plus im going to school for graphic design, but haven’t had much classes in web design which is one of my interests. what i need is an experts opinion on the basics of websites like what are really good web hosting servers that have had really good reviews, and i know that dream weaver is a good software as same goes for fireworks in think its called. also is it different in terms of my friend making the site for creating a small business. also whats the difference in making a site open source that lets you host a site for free rather than paying. like example i was looking at joomla.org which seems like that type of site

I’m really puzzled about this thing here….
We have a website (called The Gospel Of The Kingdom). It was originally developed with Adobe Dreamweaver. I downloaded a free trial of Dreamweaver, after a friend of ours developed the site. I then did lots of modification and updates, etc, etc.
Now, the site is not the most search engine friendly website there is, it seems. Furthermore, its all HTML, and there are some problems with both the HTML and the CSS Style Sheet. I am going to take a college course on web development but until then… I need some tips and pointers.
I read so much good about Joomla, and I’ve even installed it on our server in a sub directory. But, It was just about impossible for me to find a template I liked, that was free… and even harder to make one myself. We would like it to look like our current website, but to be formatted more for letters and books (the current HTML site is very narrow as far as that goes).
There are a lot of apps… Nvu got me into A LOT of trouble with HTML coding and I would never use that again. I heard about Eclipse and Aptana… I’d like to get that maybe, if it would work.
So, basically… I need some help as to what app to use. We do not have the money for Dreamweaver and I’ve read a lot of bad about HTML coding, etc, etc. Joomla would work out great if I could just make the template look like our current website. I’d give a link but Yahoo Answers does not allow that.

Hi, I need your advice , please. I just dont know what to do …Last year I started working ona business idea and so far I have almost everything I need. The ONLY thing left is the website. I need a few custom features for my website. After talking with programmers I need a databse driven site w/ CMS. A few coders saud they would use Joomla, Mysql and PHP. At the time I was talking with them they wanted $700- $1500 to do the site, but I did not find anyone I liked or trusted from Elance. NOW I dont have the money and I checked out 15 library books to try and do it on my own. I know what I need , but Im sooo confused on a few things:
1. Do I need a CMS? and what should I use?
2. What do I get to ptotect all my images, do I disable the right click also ? This is important to me..
3. Iam learning MYSQL now and Joomla, but I dont like Joomla, it has too much stuff I dont need!!
4. PHP, this is my problem, can I learn this if I focus???
5. Where do I build my site on, notepad ? ( I tried its too hard, is there something easier to use for me?)
I dont know what else I need for this site, I need a shopping cart too, but should I BUY one to have it ? Like X CART?
Also, This is my main question: When I BUILD my site HOW do I save it so I dont have to worry about it being ONLY on teh hosting site ? Is this a good reason to buy a cart too ?
CAN I do this myself if I FOCUS? I have never made a site before? PLEASE SAY YES!!!!!!

Im really concerned because I don’t know what to tell a programmer of what kind of a website I need. I need a database driven ecommerce site but I’m not sure how I can SAVE the site on something in case it goes down, etc….
Do I have them build it from a shopping cart I BUY ? Or do they build it in Joomla, ETC….
I want to be able to have the site stored on something ..is that possible??
